Whether new home construction, retro fit full frame, or custom installation, you are already starting with one of the highest performing windows available with our Comfort Plus window system. Unlike most in the window industry, North Home can place your new windows in the very best location for maximum performance. This means the homeowner can maximize their savings through energy costs, and greatly reduce condensation even on the coldest of days. Potentially more important yet, our inset window placement also improves comfort, not only by allowing you the ability to sit close to your windows without feeling cold, but also by helping to improve the warmth of the floor by eliminating the cold down draft that drops and stays on the floor with a typical window placement.
With a traditional window placement, the window is installed with the glass placement flush or even outwards of the home’s exterior. Please note, the window system itself – the actual window frame, sash, and weatherstrip - is the same regardless of its position in the wall. The difference is in the interior and exterior accessories added to the window to achieve what you, the homeowner wants to see in your individual package. All options involve the same strong frames, and extreme temperature Santoprene weatherstripping, providing the tightest sealing windows available with some of the lowest u-values on the market. The traditional window placement will have a jamb extension inside running the perimeter of the window. The jamb extension depth will vary by your home wall depth. This is the space where window coverings are typically mounted for a clean appearance. The drawback to the outer wall placement is less air flow will reach the full surface of glass due to the ledge. Warm air currents won’t make a 90 degree turn at the ledge therefore not warming the bottom portion of glass where you typically see condensation forming. The wider the ledge, the less surface of the glass receives warm air currents resulting in a higher likelihood of condensation.
The one thing some people would consider a disadvantage to the inset glass, is the potential loss of the inside cavity where you would mount window coverings or place trinkets.
We understand that our clients have different requirements for their project. If you would like a maintenance free sill inside to fit custom blinds, a place to display ornaments and trinkets, or just a place for some plants to soak up the sun, we can provide PVC interior sills to accommodate any wall depth. Your in-home consultant will show you the various exterior and interior moldings we offer to tailor your windows to fit your needs.
