North Home is committed to providing high performance before anything else, and our window frame is no exception. We have one of the strongest PVC frames on the market. 99% of the windows we sell use heavy triple pane insulated glass. Heavy wind loads and heavy glass demand heavy duty frames.
When we were getting our windows tested at an independent lab, we felt that our windows would perform beyond the normal Residential (R) Performance Class that most window companies test their windows, so we decided to have our windows tested in the Commercial (CW) Performance Class. Earning a top-notch performance grade in this class was huge to us, as this is not common for vinyl windows. They generally do not have the required structural strength to withstand the vigorous testing that Commercial windows are required to go through.
This just shows that wall thickness of your PVC window frame is an important factor when choosing windows for your home. The sturdier your vinyl frame is the more unlikely it is that you will have issues with your windows.
We use a 4.625” frame. This added depth moves the glass inwards to the warm side of the wall, about 1.5” closer to the warmth than the typical window frame in the Saskatchewan market with the ability to move it in even further for optimal cold weather performance.
Not only do our thick-walled frames support extreme weight, they have superior screw retention without the use of steel reinforcement that can cause cold conductivity problems. Our multi-chamber frames act very much like a thermos, giving added energy efficiency to the system, neutralizing the temperature change from inside to out. The air in the multiple chambers not only act as an insulator, but the combination of the air and the multiple walls also acts as a great noise buffer to outside noise.
We offer coloured exterior windows, with the exterior being laminated, much like a wrap on a car. We currently stock white, black, and brown. At this time, we only offer white on the interior.
