North Home offers a wide variety of exterior accessories for our windows. Some are common in the market with slight variations from other manufacturer’s and some are our own design and exclusive to us. Some of the options are as follows:
The renovation brickmold is our most commonly used option. It is available in 1.5”, 2” and 3”. The reno brickmold has a decorative that snaps on and off revealing a the channel to where the window is fastened to the wall. This is used in a retrofit, where exterior renos are unlikely and everything is to end up looking complete and finished on install day. The different sizes available, allow us to tailor to each individual house, fitting to the existing exterior and concealing all fasteners.
Brickmolds with nail fins, are also available in various sizes. Unlike the renovation brickmold this option does not have a removeable cap. Instead it incorporates an extruded nail fin to fasten the window to the structure. This option is best suited for customers that are planning exterior renos, and like the looks of the brickmold. The nail fin can all be taped and sealed with the house wrap and then the exterior finishing will go over the nail fin, butt up to the brickmold to complete the look.
Our window frames are extruded with a nail fin directly in the frame. This is very common for new builds, as well as projects with upcoming exterior renovations planned. The extruded nail fin is also the most cost effective option for fastening and sealing to the home. IT is very similar to the brickmold with nail fin option, just does not add the brickmold as an added trim. IT will simply reveal the window frame with in the exterior finishing for a simple, clean appearance.
If you have read our window placement section on the site, you also know we have some exclusive options for exterior options, which include and external sill, which can have any brickmold option added to it, as well as a combination piece that has an external sill, brickmold and nail fin all as one piece. These play into out philosophy of bringing the actual window system inwards to ward the warm air currents of the home. With he noted accessories, we can bring the window system flush to the inside of the home based on typical 2x6 constructon for optimal air flow to the glass surface to minimize condiesation even on the coldest days, as well creating a warmer window that you will notice when sitting beside it on those cold days. For homes that do not have 2x6 construction, we offer exclusive vinyl finishing trimsa and aluminum cladding options that will allow us to bring the window flush to the insede or placed virtually anywhere in the wall regardless of the wall depth. This allows for limitless customisation of window placement for each individual clients needs. The aluminum cladding also comes in a wide range of colors.
